We had high hopes given the reviews, but was very disappointed. We live less than 5 minutes from them and arrived right as the tracking said the order was ready. I walked in the door and immediately plated a slice for both of us and scooped out baked ziti for each of us. The order was a 9 Cheese Pizza and Baked Ziti.

This place has top notch NY style pizza even the crust flops just right. We had the Philly Cheese steak pizza, steak, cream sauce, bacon, onions topped with chipotle aioli. It was phenomenal and I am a harsh pizza critic.
Eat & Drink
The pizza was not at all crispy, did seem soggy and the baked ziti tasted like salt. Neither of us could taste the sauce or the cheese or really even the ziti, just salt. Wont be going back, which is sad since its the closest pizza place. I've used Hawthorne's catering service twice now for work events and have had the best experience!

Luisa's Brick Oven Pizzeria
The tea was amazing and the food followed suite. We stopped in on Christmas Eve while in town visiting family and they were open. Wasn't many in there but I'm sure on any other holiday they are packed. We got a large Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza and it was delicious.
Eater Carolinas
Stop by any day of the week to pick up a pie, eat inside, or dine on the outdoor patio. A staple in Charlotte for over 30 years, the original menu had 10 pizzas, 10 pastas, and not much else. Today, still known for its Italian fare, the New England-style pizza here is one of a kind. With its thin, crisp, bubbly crust cooked in a real wood-burning oven, “Joe’s Favorite” pizza is a perennial favorite with housemade pork sausage, pepperoni, and hand-pulled mozzarella.
Husband and wife duo, Kerrel and Nkem Thompson opened Bird in 2021 with not much more than a pickup window, a hanging sign, and a pizza oven. Order online and choose a pick-up time or take a chance and walk up to the window at this popular Optimist Park neighborhood spot. While this Black-owned pizza shop is cashless, the pizza is timeless. The East Coast-style pizza has vegan options and a simple menu with topping options such as pepperoni, Calabrian peppers, and hot honey. Simple add-ons like kale salad and bottled Mexican Coke make this literal hole-in-the-wall a Queen City destination. The positively petite Pure Pizza (say that five times fast) embraces true seasonality, with farmhouse-style pizza, local farm-to-table ingredients, and seasonal offerings.

Located on a fine line between Plaza Midwood and Uptown, Intermezzo is an equal-opportunity pizzaiolo destination thanks to its Serbian roots. Traditional items like eggplant moussaka, cabbage rolls, or stuffed bell peppers appear on the menu right next to pizzas like the Intermezzo Supreme featuring Italian sausage and pepperoni. Don’t miss the Piroska, a Balkan-style pizza stuffed with ham, mushrooms, three kinds of cheese, sour cream, and tomato sauce.
Figo is an Italian slang word for “cool” and that is the theme of this trendy NoDa restaurant. Traditional pizzas are made with locally-sourced super-fine flour, and fresh mozzarella, but cauliflower crust and plant-based mozzarella are available as substitutions. If you want to be one of the “figo” kids, try the Tre Carne pizza with pepperoni, meatballs, and pancetta or the pepperoni rolls with sugo dipping sauce.
Will definitely come back when I am in town. Consistently lauded as the best pizza in the state of North Carolina, Inizio is dedicated to the art and craft of true Neapolitan-style pizza. 90 seconds and 900 degrees later, the naturally risen dough transforms into a leopard-skinned pizza crust of dreams. Starting with San Marzano tomatoes and real buffalo milk mozzarella and ending with gelato or cannoli, this modern, casual spot consistently hits on all cylinders for pizza and for flavor. Somehow their soda is just extra great. Thursday or Wednesday nights there is sometimes a balloon artist there which is fun.
It’s not hard to find great versions of regional pies in the Queen City but singling out next-level pizza offerings from the pack is the hard part. There are family-owned operations with appeal for all ages as well as spots with unique toppings, carefully crafted crusts, and allergen-sensitive menus all ripe for the picking. From upscale digs to neighborhood dives, Charlotte’s got it all.
We're seated and ordered right away. He wanted the buffalo chicken pizza. Upon reflection...should have gotten pepperoni and mushrooms. Lots of people working, but had to ask for the bill(not a lot of checking back). Two drinks and an 18 inch pizza and tip...$43.
They used to be really good with consistent quality. I have had a pleasant experience each time I have been there. The wings were AMAZING and the tea was delicious. Tea tends to be my standard for how well the food is going to be.
It’s about sliding into a table that feels like home, and being served by people who feel like family. At Hawthorne’s, we are more than family-friendly, we are a family. And when you dine with us, you become part of that family too. This is now out go-to pizza place in South Charlotte.
Everyone raved about the food on both occasions, the staff are very friendly and wonderful to work with. With both experiences my orders were accurate, the delivery was on time and the food was incredible! Been a while since I went there due to moving away. Back in town and thought it would be great to take some back to hotel for dinner. I ordered literally one dish and they messed it up.(insult to injury was bread burnt to hockey puck status) Clearly theres no one expediting to send out orders.
I mean I chose this as the restaurant for my birthday if that doesnt tell you everything. When you dine with us, you won’t find swanky reclaimed wood tables, or fancy craft cocktails. We believe that an excellent dining experience is about more than just food and atmosphere.
I love the Italian stromboli and my family always eats the cheese pizza. Right now we are big fans on our menu faves, but eventually we plan to try some other items like the wings or salads. I only wish there was a medium sized pizza.
